The workforce fact sheet comprises of data by the American Nurses Association (ANA) (2014) and highlights the US nursing workforce in terms of growth, salaries, education, demographics and trends. From 2012 to 2022, it was estimated that nurse employment growth would increase by 20.2%. A total of 1.13 million new RNs would be required during that period of time. With regards to education, urban RNs are more educated than rural RNs as 46.6% of the former have a bachelor’s degree compared to 33.9% of the latter who have a bachelor’s degree. At the national level, it was estimated that by 2020, 80% of the RNs would be holders of a bachelor’s degree.
