Initial Post Instructions
Political socialization begins young. Think about conversations around politics when you were in primary school (around age 10). Maybe there was a natural disaster in your area such as a hurricane and government response levels were critiqued. What were some of the ways you learned about the political establishment through family members and friends? How were you politically socialized as a child? Use evidence (cite sources) to support your response from assigned readings or online lessons, and at least one outside scholarly source.

Follow-Up Post Instructions
Respond to at least two peers or one peer and the instructor. Further the dialogue by providing more information and clarification. Minimum of 1 scholarly source, which can include your textbook or assigned readings or may be from your additional scholarly research.

Political socialization is defined by Gray et al. (2019), as a type of political learning in which individuals develop attitudes, beliefs, behaviors, and opinions that are critical to becoming good citizens. There are various socialization agents that have shaped my political beliefs, but the most important ones are family and school. My first political socialization began at a tender age, about 8 years old, and was influenced by my parents through media exposure and discussions that followed thereafter.
